Sean Phelan, PhD, MPH (pronouns: he/him) is a national expert on effect of weight stigma on treatment of patients who are overweight or obese and on the experiences of obese health care providers. He has deep knowledge of, and cares deeply about, the influence of stigma, stereotype threat, microaggression & biases on both organizational members and on the people they serve. He and Michelle van Ryn have developed highly regarded training sessions aimed at improving organizational climate and improving quality of care for obese and racial minority patients.
