Racial Health Equity in
Patient Care

Health Care Crisis and
COVID-19 Contexts

About this Project

The current pandemic is exacerbating major racial inequities in health care. The Preventing Racial and Ethnic Biases During Pandemics and Other Healthcare Crises course is intended to empower health care personnel to interrupt racial bias and protect patients from racism. The interactive training explores tools to provide high-quality, unbiased care for all patients during events that cause extreme demands on our health care system, like the COVID-19 pandemic.

To optimize learning, we will offer three audience-specific versions of the course for physicians, nurses, and nonclinical staff with patient contact.

This course will be available free of charge through the generous support of the California Health Care Foundation.

How can organizations provide the training course to their staff?

Healthcare organizations will have three options:

    1. Organizations that have an existing LMS for e-Learning delivery may prefer to access the e-Learning modules in SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) and xAPI formats. These formats are compatible with the vast majority of LMS. After signing a user agreement (the organization will not charge for access to the e-learning nor will they use any part of the e-learning in a product for sale).
      How Will We Track Completion?
Organizations will independently track learner progress.
      What does this cost?
This option is free to any organization.
    2. Organizations may wish to have their employees complete the e-Learning experience on the diversityscienceacademy.org learning platform.
      How Will We Track Completion?

      • i) Ask employees to self-register and, after successful completion of the course, provide you with a copy of their printable electronic Certificate of Completion.
      • ii) You may prefer to work with us to register and track your employees’ completion. In this option, we provide completion reports or you designate a course manager (from your organization) to monitor completion. This service is paused and unavailable until February 1, 2022. Individual course access is still available during this time. After February 1, 2022 there will be a small fee for this service.

Option (i) is free for all organizations, anywhere.
