Asynchronous learning

This refers to any learning activity that a student can do independently at any time. For example, our video eLearning courses are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so learners can access them at a time that is convenient to them or when they are particularly interested in the topic. If part of a blended learning program, asynchronous learning refers to activities that are done at any time but completed by a specific deadline.

Blended Learning

An approach to learning that combines facilitator-led (synchronous) and asynchronous online learning experiences. For example, many of our Blended Learning training programs include online facilitator-led workshops with asynchronous learning activities.

Learning Management System

A tool used to plan, implement, and assess a learning process. All learning management systems have at least two elements: 1) A server and 2) A user interface. Learning Management Systems provide a way to deliver content, monitor participation, and assess performance. Some include the ability to create content.

LMS

Abbreviation for Learning Management System

SCORM

SCORM is a set of technical standards for eLearning products. It provides the communication method and data models that allow eLearning content and LMSs to work together. It tells programmers how to write code so that what they build will “play well” with other eLearning software. SCORM is the most widely used eLearning standard available.
